ITINERARY:
DAY 01: LIMA
Reception and transfer to the hotel in the modern Miraflores district. Night at the hotel.
DAY 02: LIMA – JULIACA – PUNO
Transfer to the airport to board the Lima / Juliaca flight. Reception and transfer to Puno. On the way, visit the famous chillpas of Sillustani (circular towers which served tombs to the nobles of the Pre-Inca period). They stand at 4000m. in an imposing and desolate landscape, dominated by the mountains that border the Umayo lagoon. Installation in Puno. Night at the hotel.B
DAY 03: PUNO – UROS – TAQUILE – PUNO
Departure in the morning by boat on Lake Titicaca and visit the floating islands of Uros, former inhabitants of the lake who built their own islands with a plant called “totora” (variety of reed). Continuation to the island of Taquile, an island in Lake Titicaca with its own characteristic, traditions and way of life of its inhabitants. Return to Puno. Night at the hotel.B –L
DAY 04: PUNO-CUZCO
Transfer to the bus station to board the tourist bus to Cuzco (departure at 08:00). A journey which lasts approximately 08 hours. On the way, visit the remains of the ancient culture of Pucará. Crossing La Raya farm to see herds of vicuñas and llamas. The path runs along the Vilcanota mountain range; snow observation covering the peaks of La Raya and Kunurana. In Racchi, we visit the temple of Wiracocha, a great Inca god. Visit the fabulous church of Andahuaylillas known as the Sistine Chapel of America. Arrival and transfer to the hotel.B
DAY 05: CUZCO
Visit of the city: the Place d’Armes, the cathedral, the main streets of the historic center, the Temple of the Sun or Koricancha. Visit of the Sacsayhuaman archaeological complex and the sites near Pucapucara, Kenko and Tambomachay. Night at the hotel. B
DAY 06: CUSCO – CACHORA – PLAYA ROSALINA (1,580 m) (03:00 hrs drive) (approx. 7 hrs walk)
Very early in the morning (5:00 am), departure from Cusco. After 03 hrs drive we arrive at Cachora (2,900 m), a small village, where walking begins. In front of us, the imposing Padreyoc (5,771 m). 22 km of trek, the first part is fairly flat to the Capuliyoq viewpoint (2,800 m) then we descend in denser vegetation to Playa Rosalina (1,580 m) next to the Apurimac river. DAY 07: PLAYA ROSALINA – CHOQUEQUIRAO (3,100 m) (approx. 8 hrs walk)
At 06:00 am, departure for the discovery of the site of Choquequirao, Inca site forgotten for centuries. This is the most difficult part of the route since we climb up to 3,100 m. It is also the most interesting area from the point of view of flora and fauna. Lunch at Maranpata after 5 hours of walking. In the afternoon, arrival on this impressive site, perhaps the last known refuge of the Incas: terraces, stairs, houses, attics etc. Camp near the city. B – L – D
DAY 08: CHOQUEQUIRAO – MAIZAL (1,900 m) (approx. 8 hrs walk)
After breakfast, we continue our tour of the site, with a view of the Apurimac canyon. Then we go up to the col sin nombre (3,270 m). Descent to the Pinchiunuyoc site (2,450 m). Lunch. In the afternoon, we continue the descent to the Blanco River (1,900 m) where there are a few farming families. Camp. B – L – D
DAY 09: MAIZAL – YANAMA (3,400 m) (approx. 8 hrs walk)
We leave very early and climb to the San Juan pass (4,170 m). Now, the highest peaks of the Vilcabamba chain (over 5,000 m) accompany us during our progress. In the afternoon, we descend to Yanama. Camp. B – L – D
DAY 10: YANAMA – TOTORA (3,500 m) (approx. 7 hrs walk)
In the middle of the Cordillera, the path winds through the Yanama pass (4,050 m), then begins the descent to Totora (3,500 m), a tiny isolated village. B – L – D
DAY 11: TOTORA – LUCMABAMBA (2000 m) (approx. 7 hrs walk)
This region is much more populated, mainly by farmers. It is easy to find fruit, coffee, cocoa, peanuts, etc. The warm waters of Colpapampa are impressive, they have formed over time natural pools along the Santa Teresa river. Then we continue our advance on the banks to Lucmabamba (2,000 m). Camp. B – L – D
DAY 12: LUCMABAMBA – AGUAS CALIENTES (2000m) (approx. 4 hrs walk) (01:00 by train)
We leave this hot region early. Visit to Paltallacta, an archaeological site. Then we pass an Oroya (zip line) to the hydroelectric plant, this is the Vilcanota river. After lunch, we take the train to Aguas Calientes (2,000 m). Night at the hotel. B – L
DAY 13: AGUAS CALIENTES – MACHU PICCHU – OLLANTAYTAMBO
Day dedicated to the discovery of the ruins of the city of Machu Picchu. You can climb Huayna Picchu to discover the site from another angle (dizzying to say the least) or join Inti Punku, the gateway to the sun. Lunch at Aguas Calientes. In the afternoon, return by train to Ollantaytambo. Welcome and transfer to the hotel. Night at the hotel. B –L
DAY 14: OLLANTAYTAMBO – CUZCO
We visit Pisac, a stronghold with the ruins which dominate the village and a colorful market enlivens this village where barter exchanges have been going on for centuries. We follow the course of Urubamba to Ollantaytambo, another fortress which has visibly kept the different roles of a military building under the Inca Empire. Return to Cuzco. Night at the hotel . B –L
DAY 15: CUZCO
Free day. Overnight at hotel. B
DAY 16: CUZCO – LIMA
Transfer to the airport for the Cuzco / Lima flight. Arrival and transfer to the hotel. Overnight in Lima. B
DAY 17: LIMA /… Transfer to the airport, departure from Lima. B
